7 Characteristics of a Good Leader

You’ve no doubt heard the old adage: “Leaders are born, not made.” But is it true? We certainly don’t think so!
Here at Essential Leadership Solutions (ELS), we take pride in equipping our clients with the leadership intelligence, creativity and essential skills needed to thrive as a leader in today’s world. In short, we believe leaders are born AND made!
While it’s true that some people are natural-born leaders, anyone can develop the skill set needed with some practice. What follows are characteristics to hone to help you develop good leadership skills:
Communicate: That means talking as well as actively listening to your co-workers, clients and supervisors.
Inspire others: Being a leader means you are part of a team, and as a leader you should be able to motivate and inspire those you work with to collaborate as best they can
Practice discipline: Demonstrate discipline at work by always meeting deadlines, keeping appointments, and ending meetings on time.
Take on more responsibility: Stepping out of your comfort zone is the only way you will learn anything new, and doing so will get you noticed by upper management as someone who takes initiative.
Empower your teammates: Delegating tasks to others not only frees you up for things you do well, it also empowers other people on your team.
Be trustworthy: By being open and honest, you will encourage the same sort of honesty in your employees
Be positive: A positive attitude can go a long way in an office. You should be able to laugh at yourself when something doesn't go quite as planned; this helps create a happy and healthy work environment, even during busy, stressful periods.
